HealthDental Plan Enrolment Info

Co-op students on a Fall or Winter Work Session are not automatically covered by the Scarborough Campus Students’ Union Health & Dental Plan. The following is important information on how to enroll for coverage during your Work Term.

A growing number of important health-care services are not covered by provincial health care. The Plan is a valuable service provided by the Scarborough Campus Students’ Union (SCSU) to fill the gaps in government health care.

Coverage Includes:

·              Health & Vision benefits such as prescription drugs, physiotherapist, chiropractor, massage therapist, vaccinations, medical equipment, eye exam, and more…

·              Dental benefits such as checkups, cleanings, fillings, x-rays, extractions, etc.

·              Travel benefits including 120 days per trip, $5,000,000 per incident, plus trip cancellation and trip interruption. If you are traveling for your Work Term, you can benefit from the travel health coverage for the duration of your Work Term, as well as for the first 120 days of your trip and for 120 days after the end, as long as you remain covered for the applicable policy years. You must notify studentcare.net/works before leaving on a Work Term greater than 120 days. Please note that travel coverage does not apply to international students traveling to their home country.

How Do I Enroll?

You can enroll for coverage during your Work Session by completing an enrolment form found at www.ihaveaplan.ca and returning it to the SCSU Office (located in the Student Centre) with your payment. If you wish to cover your spouse and/or dependants, you have to pay the appropriate couple or family fee in addition to your own enrolment fee. Enrolments can only be processed within the Change-of-Coverage Period.

Weigh the Costs and Benefits

If you are already covered by another plan (i.e. parent or spouse’s employee benefit plan) there are some important things to consider:

·              Being enrolled as a dependant usually requires your family member to pay additional costs to have you covered.

·              A parent's insurance plan could stop covering you completely over the age of 25.

·              Most employee benefit plans offer limited or no travel or vaccination coverage. If you are planning to travel on your Co-op Work Term, this Plan is especially designed for you.

·              Costs for using the Health & Wellness dispensary are covered through this Plan.

How Much Does it Cost?
The Plan fee is $94.38 per Work Session. The breakdown is $47.11 for health coverage and $44.27 for dental coverage. To enroll yourself in the Plan, you must also pay a $33.69 SCSU society fee.

Change-of-Coverage Period:

Fall Work Session: Sept. 1 - 30, 2009

Winter Work Session: Jan. 4 – 18, 2010
